Politics, Power, and Purity Tests
Can We Talk About Change Without Picking a Side?

Can We Talk About Change Without Picking a Side?
By Rick Zwetsch, Founder – LiveImpact.io
If every issue comes with a side, can we still stand for something without being shoved into a corner?
We live in an age where taking action is often mistaken for taking sides. Say something, and someone will ask who you’re “really with.” Support a cause, and you’re labeled. Raise a concern, and suddenly you’re suspect.
This polarization isn’t just political it’s emotional. It’s exhausting. And for many people, it’s silencing.
But here’s the truth: not everything has to be a partisan act.
Not every effort to do good needs to come with a team jersey.
The False Choice Trap
Somewhere along the way, we internalized the idea that if you care about climate, you must hate business. If you advocate for racial justice, you must oppose law enforcement. If you support the rights of one group, you must be against another.
It’s a trap that twists thoughtful action into mindless conflict.
This either/or framing keeps people from showing up, keeps movements from growing, and keeps impact from being built at scale. When every issue becomes a purity test, we lose not only common ground, we lose common cause.
Why This Matters for LiveImpact.io
LiveImpact.io was built with a different idea:
People want to do good. They just don’t want to get dragged into someone else’s politics to do it.
That’s why our platform is:
Nonpartisan – We don’t push ideologies or endorse candidates
Searchable and open – You choose what causes matter to you
Action-focused – We don’t care how loud you shout, we care what you do
We’re not naïve. Every cause touches systems, and systems are political. But that doesn’t mean the intention to help should require a loyalty oath.
Let’s Normalize Nuance
It’s possible to care about clean water and economic development.
It’s possible to support police reform and public safety.
It’s possible to take action without aligning yourself with every tweet, slogan, or controversy tied to that cause.
Real change requires a broad base not just true believers.
And if we can’t create a space where people feel safe to act without getting boxed in, we’ll keep losing people who might’ve otherwise leaned in.
We're building LiveImpact.io to track real action not just attention. If that resonates, we’d love your support.

TL;DR
Doing good shouldn’t require taking sides.
LiveImpact.io is here to make action possible—without the purity tests.
